Discrimination Policy
The University and all its facilities are open to qualified students of all races, nationalities and creeds. It is a violation of University policy to accept listings whose sponsors discriminate on the basis of race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, disability: mental or physical, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, marital status, familial status, source of income or age. The exception to this guideline is a limited prerogative to specify ‘male’ or ‘female,’ is granted to persons who are renting one room in their own home. The final choice of a tenant is exclusively yours; however, you may not refuse to rent to anyone for any reason that might be defined as discriminatory. We expect property owners to interact in an appropriate and professional manner.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much should I charge for my rental?
We cannot recommend the fair market value of your rental. However, our Average Rental Costs page shows the advertised price ranges and an average price based on the number of listings compared.
How do I modify my ad online?
Log into your account on Places4Students. There you can activate or inactivate it, view, edit, add or delete photos and delete a property you no longer own or manage. You can modify your postings at any time. You do not need to delete it when it rents. You can choose “Renew Listing”, “Take Offline” or “Rented.”
How long will my ad run? How long will my ad stay in your system?
Your rental ad runs for 90 days from the day you submit or the end of the availability period, whichever is earlier, at which time the ad automatically expires (is set to “hide”).
How can I increase interest in my ad?
There are several ways to make your ad more appealing to searchers:
- Be competitive in your rent price! (see our Average Rental Costs page)
- Lower the deposit or allow the deposit to be paid in installments to decrease initial cost to the tenant.
- Allow pets. Ask for pet references and get a sufficient deposit. It still must not exceed two months’ rent.
When does the academic year begin and end? When are breaks?
The Registrar’s Office posts both current and future academic calendars.
