Renters Workshop

What is the Renters Workshop?
The Renters Workshop is a free, self-paced online course created for UCSC students seeking off-campus housing. The comprehensive workshop educates students about their legal rights and responsibilities and provides valuable tips for conducting an effective rental search. After finishing the workshop, you will receive a Certificate of Completion to show landlords you are a knowledgeable prospective tenant.

How to access the workshop
The Renters Workshop is available in Canvas, the UCSC learning management system. You must be a UCSC student and have an “@ucsc.edu” email address (CruzID) to access the workshop.
Don’t have a CruzID? The information curated for the workshop is also available on our website, so take some time to explore.

Why take the Renters Workshop?
Some Santa Cruz landlords require UCSC students to provide a Certificate of Completion from the Renters Workshop!
After taking the workshop, you will also be able to:
- Detect and avoid fraudulent listings, rental scams, and illegal units.
- Know your rights and responsibilities as a tenant.
- Make a great first impression when inquiring about a rental.
